U3A aims and objectives are to enhance the lives of people no longer working by providing a social network of those with similar interest. We do this through more than 50 Interest Groups providing educational, leisure and recreational activities for the benefit of members in Tavistock and the surrounding area. Groups are organised on a self help basis where we share knowledge and experience. Under normal circumstances we have good programme of social events and several active walking groups.
Many thanks to our recent speaker Marjorie Creek from Partner Kitsons LLP, with her talk entitled “What’s Your Plan?” A sensitive subject that was handled with tact, diplomacy and an element of humour. A very knowledgeable lady with some timely advice given the pandemic.
We are planning to resume our ‘normal’ monthly meetings from September 1st as the Town Hall will be available. However, we do not as yet know what these meetings will ‘look’ like. We will obviously keep to the government guidelines/recommendations that are in place at the time and be guided by both the Town Hall and our members. We anticipate that whatever the restrictions/numbers that are/are not in force, not everyone will be comfortable with these. The committee are looking at a hybrid meeting where we have a speaker and audience in the Town Hall but are also able to zoom the meeting to additional members either in another venue or at home.
Our Website carries updates and, as things progress, we will keep you informed as to when we can begin our groups once again. It looks very much like “normal” meetings can resume from July 18th but this will be very dependent on the Group Leaders. Those of you who are in existing groups will be contacted by the Group Leaders as to when/if they are resuming. For those of you who are new to our u3a or those that wish to join other groups, please monitor the website for further details.
As announced at the last monthly meeting and communicated to you all via email or letter, our August meeting will take place on Wednesday 4th August in The Meadows 2-4pm. We will provide a hot drink, sandwiches and some shade. If you could bring a mug, seating and a cake (if you bake!). Please come prepared for rain, shine, hurricane etc!!. This is a ticket only event: first come, first served so contact Robin or Angela to reserve your place. I look forward to seeing as many as you as possible on the day.
For and on behalf of the Committee of Tavy District u3a.
