The group members start by telling each other in German, over a cup of coffee, what we've been up to since we last met. We then look at two or three German texts, which have been previously circulated. Most often they are about current events, both serious and lighter subjects, and the texts vary in difficulty. We will translate the texts together and discuss, in German, issues raised. Sometimes the discussion strays from the original subject: but that is no problem. The texts are really there as a stimulus to conversation while also providing useful vocabulary and model language patterns. We are a relaxed and friendly group and don't take ourselves to seriously.
