Mah Jong is a is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is commonly played by four players.
There are 144 tiles per set made up of:
- The three suits i.e. dots, bamboo and characters, numbered 1 to 9, four of each (108 tiles)
- The honour tiles four winds and three dragons, four of each (28 tiles)
- The bonus tiles four flowers and four seasons, one of each (8 tiles)
The idea is to make a set of 3 or 4 of the same number, or a run of 3 or 4 of the same suit, its a little like playing gin rummy but with winds and dragons.
If you know the difference between a pong, kong or a chow this might be for you.
