Nordic Walking

Nordic Walking is a quick-paced activity performed using specially designed Nordic Walking Poles; it gets the heart rate up, increases calorie burn and engages more muscles than normal walking.

The group meets in the Meadows Park on Thursday mornings to learn the technique. Members must provide their own  Nordic Poles. (These are different from trekking/hiking poles)

The group leader Gudrun Zeissler, qualified as an instructor in Nordic Walking in Germany in 2012 and will instruct members on using the correct movements and technique.

To participate, group members will need:

  • Nordic Walking Poles (these have a glove that attaches to each pole to ensure each hand is in the right position)
  • Comfortable clothing
  • Walking boots/running shoes or other comfortable shoes for walking
  • Bottle of water
  • Waterproofs on rainy weather days
