Sterts Theatre in Liskeard have just released their summer programme and I will book some of their productions if there is sufficient interest among u3a members. They feature community theatre and are partly funded by charity. We cannot, therefore, option a number of tickets and pay at a later date as we do with the Theatre Royal.

So if you want to book tickets you can sign up by email at tavyu3atheatre@gmail.com. I will then let you have an address to post a cheque in payment.

I will be looking to get Mathilda booked and paid for by 20th April and the others shortly afterwards. So if you are interested please let me know as soon as possible.

The shows I am looking to book are:

Mathilda, the musical performed by Sterts’ Youth Theatre Group – Thursday 2nd June 2pm – Tickets £9.00

HMS Pinafore – performed by Opera Anywhere – Saturday 11th June 7.30pm – Tickets £16.00

Midsummer Nights Dream performed by Festival Players – Wednesday 29th June – Tickets £15.00

Performances take place in a tented amphitheatre, so they offer a somewhat safer venue in these covid-ridden times. Anyone concerned about getting to Liskeard, please contact me and I will see if I can arrange lifts.

I am sorry to tell you that I have been informed that This Land, which some of us were due to attend this September at the Theatre Royal, has been cancelled. The explanation I received from the Theatre is as follows:

‘In recent weeks we have explored, in depth, with the Wampanoag community and with the originating creative team, whether This Land is the right play for a changed world. We have reached a collective conclusion that the production as it was originally conceived is no longer the story we wish to tell. TRP and the Wampanoag community will instead embark on a new co-creation journey that will provide a platform for the Wampanoag to tell their stories in their own ways, presented with our support in Plymouth UK and in Massachusetts, USA.

Plans on how we do this are starting to be formed and we will be in touch to let you know full details in due course,’
